Project Coordinator at the Swedish Armed Forces Environmental Assessment Unit

The main task of the Swedish Armed Forces is to defend Sweden and allied states against armed attacks. The Environmental Assessment Unit contributes to this by creating conditions for the Armed Forces to carry out its main task. The primary mission of the Environmental Assessment Unit is to lead and carry out the agency's work with contaminated areas and to manage cases related to environmental permits for hazardous activities.

The Armed Forces is currently in a growth phase, in which the unit is very involved, among other things through the permitting of hazardous activities and investigating potential historical contamination at new establishment sites.

The Environmental Assessment Unit is a joint resource of the Armed Forces and operates throughout the country, and in some cases also abroad.

Our unit consists of 25 positions with mixed competencies in the form of project coordinators, lawyers, administrators, and financial officers. We work together in a positive and stimulating environment in the midst of military life at a regiment. Main Responsibilities

As a project coordinator at the Swedish Armed Forces Environmental Assessment Unit, you will be responsible for independently leading a number of the unit's projects related to contaminated areas. The work involves all stages of the process of remediating contaminated areas, such as investigations, risk assessments, and remediation. You will also respond to internal and external inquiries regarding contaminated areas. The Environmental Assessment Unit handles various types of contamination, currently with a strong focus on PFAS. We have close collaboration with other parts of the Armed Forces and with the Fortifications Agency, as well as with other authorities and stakeholders. As a project coordinator, you will have a unique opportunity to help develop the agency's work with contaminated areas.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Relevant university degree of at least 180 higher education credits (120 credits) (for example, in environmental or natural sciences such as geology, ecotoxicology, hydrogeology)
  • Experience in project management
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in Swedish
  • Driver's license (B)

PREFERABLE

  • Experience in leading investigations regarding contaminated areas, preferably related to the Armed Forces' activities
  • Experience in procuring remediation contracts, preferably related to the Armed Forces' activities
  • Experience in supervision according to the Environmental Code, preferably related to the Armed Forces' activities

Other Information

Employment type: Permanent civilian employment with a six-month probationary period

Employment rate: Full-time

Work location: Enköping. The Swedish Armed Forces Environmental Assessment Unit is located at the Command Regiment in Enköping, but is functionally led in its operations by the Headquarters in Stockholm. There may be an opportunity to agree on remote work to some extent.

Start date: As soon as possible after agreement
